Chimney Sweeping
Why Do Chimneys Need Cleaning?
Through the chimney flue, toxic gases are able to escape your home. If your chimney is obstructed or suffers cracks or leaks, dangerous carbon monoxide could escape into your home. The National Fire Protection Association standard 211 says, “Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs shall be done if necessary.” Even if you don’t use your chimney all that often, animals may nest in your flue or your there could be deterioration that could make your chimney unsafe to use.
What do We Do?
At Birmingham Chimney, a professional Chimney Sweep acts as an on-the-job fire prevention expert. They inspect and examine your fireplace for unsafe conditions and correct any problems they find.
To clean the chimney, the Chimney Sweep uses brushes to remove creosote and soot deposits from the firebox and chimney. Care is taken to fully clean the chimney, and work is done from both outside and inside the house. Special rods, chimney brushes, hand brushes, and a vacuum are all used.
